Specialty contracting work for a 23-story pediatric hospital, including framing, drywall, taping, aluminum reveals, plaster, and GRG elements across complex clinical and public spaces.

Scope

Thorne Associates served as the specialty contractor on this 23-story, 1.25 million-square-foot pediatric hospital in Chicago, one of the largest and most complex healthcare construction projects in the region. Our scope included framing, drywall, taping, aluminum reveals, plaster, and GRG (glass fiber reinforced gypsum) elements throughout the facility’s clinical and public spaces. The breadth and technical complexity of this scope demanded a team with deep healthcare construction experience and the capacity to execute across a high-rise, high-volume environment without compromise.

Challenges & Highlights

Healthcare construction in a dense urban setting requires a level of coordination and logistics discipline that goes beyond standard commercial work. Just-in-time material deliveries, rigorous multi-trade coordination, strict IDPH approval requirements, and uncompromising quality control standards defined the rhythm of this project from start to finish. Delivering high-end finishes across 23 floors while meeting the compliance and documentation requirements of a pediatric facility is exactly the kind of environment where Thorne’s experience and thoroughness make the difference.

Results

The finished facility stands as one of the most recognized children’s hospitals in the country, and Thorne’s work across its clinical and public spaces reflects the quality standard the project demanded. For GCs evaluating partners for large-scale healthcare work, Lurie represents the clearest evidence of what Thorne brings to the most demanding builds in the region.
